Teilkörper is a solo dance piece composed in 2022, in a time where I studied and read a lot of Annie Ernaux´s books, namely Les Années and La Honte. This choreography uses excerpts of La Honte where Ernaux talks about where she comes from, the sociology of her hometown, of her family, of the people she was surrounded with and of herself.

Coming from a non-academic and far away from the arts family and village myself, I could resonate a lot with Ernaux´s sentiments and explorations, which is why I chose to abstract some of the typical gestures of her social that she mentions - like being on all fours scrubbing the floor, spitting in ones hand, putting away the cigarette behind your ear to have it later or smelling used stockings after a day of working. I researched and added some gestures I remember from my childhood and the social bubble I grew up in at the farm, gestures I rarely see in the art and music world in Vienna. I chose to dance these gestures, combining them with movement that arose in my improvisations, in front of a projection of Annie Ernaux´s words, to give some context, but never being able to read the whole text as my body moved in front of the projection, making it less transparent to understand, read, grasp what Ernaux talked and I danced about.
